Homeopathic Mentorship and Work Exchange Program

This is a new undertaking at Riverdale Homeopathy that we are super excited about. We wanted to help Homeopaths to become more acquainted with what it was like in a clinic/holistic dispensary atmosphere, and to leverage strengths of the individuals we brought to work with us, with what we can teach them as members of our team.

The terms are 6 months, for 4-8 hours per week. The job involves keeping our shelves stocked, inventory, helping customers with sound advice, and quickly treating simple acutes, online research, help with social media marketing (FB, Tw, Pinterest), helping us to host our own seminars, light gardening, organizing and keeping us on our game.

Perks of the position:

·      A laid back working atmosphere

·      Shared homeopathic knowledge

·      The opportunity to attend seminars for free

·      Staff discount for everything in store

·      Shmoozing with homeopaths, both local and international

·      Sharing cases to get feedback and learning from others

·      Basically feel connected to the Homeopathic community

There is a combined 60 yrs of collective experience among the Homeopaths at Riverdale Homeopathy: homeopathic researchers, teachers, movers and shakers in the local and international homeopathic community, not to toot our own horn…no, we can toot, we are proud of our team’s accomplishments!

Although it is an unpaid/volunteer position, there is also the potential for the internship to turn into a paid position in the future, should a staff position become available.

From my personal experience as a Riverdale employee while I was in school, I learned so much more than my counterparts because I was immersed in a clinic environment. New remedies I saw while completing orders gave me direction for my own personal Homeopathic reading.

Check out our participants in this program for this term and stay tuned to find out when we are on the look out for new members! We will be looking again for participants in December 2015, so stay tuned for more information, or join our newsletter to get the invitation to apply straight to your in basket!

Meet the current participants of this program!

Laura Hughes PhD, ND (Cand.)

Laura HughesLaura is currently a fourth year intern at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) in Toronto, where she will graduate with an ND degree in May 2016. Prior to studying Naturopathy, Laura completed her BSc and MSc in nutrition at the University of Guelph, and her PhD in cancer epidemiology at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Intrigued by her introductory homeopathy courses at CCNM, Laura travelled to India to study more advanced case-taking with Rajan Sankaran at the Other Song Academy in Mumbai. On this trip, she observed true healing, and came to realize that her love for homeopathy stems from the fact that it brings all of her scientific knowledge into a new dimension. She is excited to be working with the team at Riverdale Homeopathy, and looks forward to learning as much as she can about this amazing medicine. A native of east end Toronto, Laura enjoys reading, writing, travel photography, and spending time by the water.

Maria Ionescu DHMHS

Maria IonescuI grew up in Romania. There, for a cough you first got black radish juice mixed with honey and a small satchel filled with warm sea salt to put on your chest before bedtime. We called them ‘grandmother remedies’ and I loved them because they worked, so I developed an interest in complementary and alternative medicine early on.

I became interested in homeopathy later in life because the first remedy I took made such a positive difference in my life and I didn’t quite understand how that was possible. I decided to study it at the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine and graduated in June 2015.

I am an architect by training. Putting together a building is a bit like putting together a 3D puzzle.  I was to discover at OCHM that finding the right homeopathic remedy is a bit like that, too, only with more dimensions.  I look forward to exploring the complexities of health with my patients in the years that come. I am delighted to be able to join the Riverdale team, my favourite clinic in Toronto.

Mehar Qaisar DHMS

Mehar completed her D.H.M.S and Masters in Sociology from Karachi, Pakistan.

After completing her Masters in Sociology, she chose a career in Homeopathy because she loves the homeopathic focus on minimum dose and effectiveness. She enjoys helping people. Mehar practiced for seven years in Pakistan at the Shahid Homeo Clinic with Dr. Shahid Jameel and Dr. Jameel Ahsan, one of the most renowned Homeopaths in Pakistan. In their clinic they would treat between 50 and 100 (or sometimes more) patients in a day.

After moving to Canada she wanted to continue her work in Homeopathy.  It was very encouraging for her that Homeopathy is recognized in Canada. She has since joined Riverdale Homeopathy team as part of the Homeopathic Mentorship and Work Exchange Program.

During her eight years of experience in field of homeopathy she has learned to treat all kinds of acute and chronic diseases. Her aim in life is to treat those ailments for which allopathic medicine has no treatment and she looks forward to a day where homeopathy is one of the most popular systems of medicine.

She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Guelph where she graduated with Honours.
